What sets this design apart is the use of Tanzanian hardwood known as "mninga" for the frame. Handmade by local artisans, this piece is a testament to the craftsmanship and creativity found in Tanzania. The Molocaho by Amorette furniture line focuses on using local materials and supporting the local community.
The settee features a sturdy mninga wood frame, along with a seat made of belt, jute, high-density foam, and high-quality upholstery fabric. With dimensions of 63.5" in width, 21" in depth, and 40" in height, it offers both comfort and style.
This project began in 2015 and takes approximately five days to produce a single settee. The workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, serves as the manufacturing hub for this design. Visitors can experience the beauty and craftsmanship of the Ngorongoro Settee at the Amorette Showroom in Dar es Salaam.
As part of the design process, extensive research was conducted to ensure the durability and functionality of the furniture line. The use of hardwood prompted the designer to commit to planting trees, emphasizing the importance of conservation and the fight against global warming.
One of the major challenges faced during the project was to maintain both the aesthetic appeal and comfort of the settee. However, through careful design and craftsmanship, the Ngorongoro Settee successfully combines style and functionality.
This settee is made to order and can be customized with different fabric options, all of which are printed in-house. Its unique curves and natural inspiration make it suitable for various residential or hotel interiors, including entryways, lobbies, and living rooms.
Amorette Ltd holds the copyright for this design, ensuring its originality and uniqueness. In recognition of its outstanding creativity and ingenuity, the Ngorongoro Settee was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017. This prestigious award celebrates designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
